24 hours in Aarhus

Tre særudstillinger pryder desuden væggene i Danmarks næstmest besøgte museum. Kanonen, Shooting into the Corner af Anish Kapoor, der hver halve time, skyder rødt voks udover en væg, skal jeg ikke gør mig klog på, men Årets Pressefotos var helt sikkert hele besøget værd!

When Easter is knocking on the door, and you need a quick get away, you take the train to Aarhus! Many Copenhageners probably would not admit it, but nevertheless, I have enjoyed 24 hours in Aarhus over the weekend. Shops, coffee shops, a museum and newly opened hotel was on the to-do list.

A quick walk from the station and I was standing in the foyer of Scandic Aarhus City. The check-in went smoothly, although my blogger brain had booked the room for the weekend after. Beautiful! I was very tired after a couple of Easter lunches, so my first afternoon was spent in the room. Fine furnishings and free internet, made the evening a lot easier. However, I had to look far for the minibar, as my evening hungry came crawling. The mini bar is not in the room, but by the front desk, which means you think twice when ones sugar craving kicks in. Maybe a win win, but still a bit tiring.

Saturday morning and I was ready to take an iron grip on Aarhus. Allied with a good local friend who had agreed to act as tour guide. Also, thanks to the many tips via Facebook. We went past a few sneaker shops, including Chapter Shoe, a very cozy semi-secret coffee shop, Great Coffee, lunch at Juliette, before the most important thing, the one thing I had looked forward to the most, Aros.

Many would probably agree, I am not the most cultural person alive, yet I enjoyed the exhibitions, especially the 9 rooms in the basement. Funniest is the mirrored room where you really get the feeling of infinity. Three special exhibitions can also be seen these days at Denmark’s second most visited museum. The cannon, Shooting into the Corner by Anish Kapoor, shoots red clays into a wall every half hour, is to strange for me, but the Danish Press Photo of the Year was definitely all worth the visit!
