B&O has launched their first product in their new series B&O PLAY, the Beolit 12. The successful design of the stereo unit is the work of no other than Cecilie Manz, and the quality is in the same calibers as we know it from B&O. The new B&O PLAY series is meant for a contemporary segment, people who are impulsive, playful and on the move. The design reflects that function very well since the unit is light and easy to carry, equipped with a sleek leather handle, and a bottom that can withstand being placed on the damp grass in the park, on the terrace or on the sandy beach.

I had a little chat with Cecilie Manz regarding her new design in her considerable design assembly. Cecilie has had to take into account many elements in this design process, B&O’s traditions and history, an entire world of technology science and of course the fact that the unit should be outstandingly stunning. I think she did a good job, with the concept of portable audio in mind. Beolit 12 is constructed of aluminium which is one B&O’s specialties, but the unit also reflects a retro spirit from old B&O radios despite the modern expression. Cecilie’s favourite unit colour is the light aluminium with a brown leather strap and a yellow coating in the speaker.

Asked if there is anything Cecilie can’t design, she says with a smile that of course there is, she has also had to refuse several offers. But there is no definitive list of what she will or will not design, it appends on her stomach feeling for the project. I must say that her stomach must really have been feeling for this project. Cecilie reveals that she already has started new projects, and the next thing we will be seeing from her is furniture and lamps. She does not lack a challenge the multifaceted Cecilie Manz.
