Electrolux Design Lab #7

We have reached the last post about this year’s Electrolux Design Lab competition. The competition culminated in the finale in Stockholm a few weeks ago, and maybe you followed the fun on our Twitter, even though, I will still talk a bit about the winner and my favourites.

Women spend 1.5 years of their lives cleaning, which was probably the main reason for Colombian Adrian Perez Zapata’s idea for this year’s Design Lab competition. An idea that gave him first place. An innovative new concept called The Mab – a device that scans the house for dirt and sends out flying miniature robots to clean up. With the first place Adrian can put €5,000 in his pocket and look forward to a half year paid internship at the Electrolux global design centre.

My favourites in the line-up, was probably somewhat coloured by the fact that I am very much concerned about my eating habits. Nutrima by Finnish Janne Palovuri scans the content and freshness of ones food. Francisco Grasas Kitchen Hub, which helps one to eat better, healthier, and not least reduce food waste. And finally, perhaps my favourite of the three, Swedish Dawid Dawod’s Global Hub, a Star Wars inspired hologram that allows you to cook your food with people from all over the world.

Have you got an idea that is too good to waste; you should really think about entering. The 2014 brief has already been sent out , you can read more about here. I strongly urge young Danish talents to join – just ask Danish Christopher Holm-Hansen, who participated in 2012 , about what it can do for one’s career.
