Gubi Steals the Show with new Products and Installation in Neoclassical palace during Milan Design Week

This year marked my 5th visit to Salone del Mobile and Milan Design Week. This time I came well prepare, which is also the only way to go. I remember my first time, where I had zero clue what was up and down, and basically just ended up walking around like a headless chicken with no purpose. Every year the events just seem to grow bigger and bolder, smaller brands quickly gets overshadowed by the bigger brands and budgets – it’s definitely not easy to stand out.

I have been thinking how to cover the Design Week best and I have come to the conclusion that I will share a few of my favorites, call it best in show, and then gather everything else in a highlight post – how does that sound?

So let’s start with the very best, the one that totally stole the show for me; Gubi. I think it is very safe to say that the Gubi installation in the Palazzo Serbelloni, dating back to 1770 (Napoleon even used it as his residence) was the perfect sounding to showcase all of Danish design brand Gubi’s ever growing collection. Introducing the Finnish master of light, Paavo Tynell together with legendary French icons Pierre Paulin and Marcel Gascoin and Italian architect and designer Carlo de Carli, alongside also new, the gravity lamp and a bed by Space Copenhagen. All beautifully shown together with existing products by award-winning design duo GamFratesi, and renowned mid-century designers Greta M. Grossman and Jacques Adnet.

Gubi is really pushing the boundaries and it’s hard not to feel a little proud of this company. Long time followers will know that I used to do the PR for Gubi.

If you like to see more and you are visiting Copenhagen anytime soon, remember to visit their shop and showroom – or at least enjoy a glimpse of it here.

Gubi also got my attention back in January when I did my trend forecast for 2018.

It was one of my favourites also, although I think I lucked out with how many people were there when I attended.
