While modern Scandinavian lighting designs tends to be fairly simple and elegant, the Italians tends to spice it up and make their lamps way more playful – and they do it so well. Just like with leather, they know their lighting. Artemide is one of the major players, a company where everyone is one big happy family according to Carlotta de Bevilacqua, who is married to the founder Ernesto Gismondi, and whom I had a brief talk with during Stockholm Furniture Fair.
Artemide was founded in 1960 and has since become major player on the International lighting scene with groundbreaking designs; some by Carlotta herself, some by new designers like Chinese design duo Neri & Hu and Danish BIG, and of course the most iconic of them all, Tolomeo lamp designed 30 years ago by Michele De Lucchi and Giancarlo Fassina.
It is important to Artemide that they only design lamps that doesn’t already exist, which I believe is great criteria for success – being unique and your own is also something I find very important, and if you can do it all with a big smile and an everlasting enthusiasm like Carlotta, the world is yours. And I think Artemide is a perfect example.
Since the 1990s, with their “The Human Light” philosophy, Artemide has been changing the way to conceive light for the benefit of man and his wellbeing, trying to find ways to respond to the needs of individuals at different places and times in life. High design contents, high-level technological innovation, products conceived according to people’s needs, as well as on-going investments in marketing and communication have been key to develop the renown of Artemide, one of the most popular and prestigious lighting brands worldwide.
Artemide has always been a testimonial of the best Italian design, a blend of vision, beauty, and top-quality manufacturing, sustainable manufacturing, as well as responsible towards man and the environment. With their great spirit of mind Artemide will most definitely continue to design the future together with the world’s best designers I am sure.
Paid partnership with Artemide. Thoughts and opinions are 100% my own. Thanks for supporting collaborations that I am excited about and that have kept Bungalow5’s doors open.
