Interior Essentials: Penguin Chair

I have a new crush. I had to go all the way to New York to find it. The Penguin Chair by Danish designer Ib Kofod-Larsen.

Even though Ib achieved international success in the 1950s, and his Penguin Chair became one of Denmark’s best selling pieces in the US, he is almost nowhere to be found – and I hadn’t heard anything about him or his chair before I saw it in New York.

I have been roaming all my design books, even the most trusted ones, doesn’t not say anything about Ib Kofod-Larsen. Shame I think, but luckily for us, Danish Brdr. Petersen have started producing this wonderful and beautiful chair. It comes in a dining chair, lounge chair and a rocking chair version.

I love that chair too but I was mainly interested in the artwork on the wall. Who is responsible for that Tin Tin painting? And the Batman? Both are terrific!

Thank you. So the TinTin is a print by Ole Ahlberg. And the Batman, well, I found it on etsy about 5 years ago and I don’t have the buyer anymore. Sorry. It was part of a whole superhero collection, I got the Batman and Spiderman.

Thank you for this post! I had not yet heard from Brdr. Petersen and I absolutely love the re-editions of the mid-century furniture they have chosen to produce again. I hope I will be able to distribute them in Belgium 🙂
