#LoveLocal – Overgaard & Dyrman

Et citat af Tony Robbins blev et centralt omdrejningspunkt og satte for alvor skub i samarbejdet og deres fælles designdrømme:  ”Success is doing what you want to do, when you want, where you want, with whom you want, as much as you want.”

More and more Danish companies are moving their production abroad to save costs. Fortunately, not all! In a number of recurring posts we salute those who go against the current trend. We talk to those who still forms, designs, develope and assemble everything in Denmark. We talk about the pros and cons why we must protect the “Made in Denmark” brand and much more.

Personally, I love people who pursue their passion, leaving their well-paying and stable jobs and plunge into the uncertain life as a self-employed. Christian and Jasper is behind the relatively newly started company, Overgaard & Dyrman, they did exactly what many only dream about – they pursued their dream of independence.

A quote by Tony Robbins was a pivotal point and gave the final push for their joint design dreams: “Success is doing what you want to do, when you want, where you want, with whom you want, as much as you want.”

Their designs are generally characterized by a degree of complexity and the love for honest materials and detail. Designs that is certainly exuded with a certain kind of rigor. With good workmanship and design also follows a predominant design and development process, when everything has to be perfect and when just the right solution in the form of an important detail is missing.

You could almost say we are a kind of suckers for slow-design. For us the longer process is completely natural, and only when a project can withstand being put aside and taken up several times and still evoke a pleasant pleasure we believe that we are on to something

Overgaard & Dyrman’s first furniture collection is the Wire collection. It is based on the material steel as the structure and the upholstery is a combination of different kinds leather. A collection that has been through the boys’ sharp eyes and hands many times to pet for all the details. They work across the country, with Christian in North Jutland and Jasper in Copenhagen. It obviously creates challenges, but they can also obtain the maximum benefit of both their networks. Through both professional and more personal relationships, which means that they have found some very good partners and set-up a production. Today Christian takes care of all the metal work in Jutland, while Jasper is responsible for the production of all the leather parts in their workshop on Zealand.

They do not believe that you can achieve an optimal result, if the primary part of the design process takes place entirely in front of a computer screen, after which the final work drawings is sent to the opposite side of the world where other then take over the final production.

When you talk production, it is only right for us to think locally. Based on our way to work, we are very much dependent on the flexibility and proximity, both internally but also in relation to external partners. Therefore, we choose our professional relationships based on their skills, but just as much on personal chemistry and gut feeling
