In Denmark we have a very long and very traditional design heritage and to get through the eye of the needle is extremely hard for the new furniture designers. Luckily there is always a few that leaps through. I have looked through the pool of talent and found five that is worth keeping an eye on and probably also to invest in.
Behind Herman CPH is Helle Herman Mortensen and Jonas Herman Pedersen, a newer company that quickly became a blogger darling, when everyone around the world, wrote about their limited edition luxury Ikea bags. Just this year, they have started collaborating with ferm living, who launched a bigger collection of Herman CPH’s furniture.
Moebe revolutionised the old school clip-on frame and is pretty much in every designer wall all over the world. The three dudes behind the brand recently launched a new stand that transforms any standard architect lamp and convert it from being a table lamp to a floor lamp.
It has been going pretty fast for Chris. Danish Skagerak got hold of Chris and her enormous talent very quickly and launched Georg, her furniture collection in 2014. Ever since her designs has won a long list of International design awards. Lately Chris has also worked with Frama and Margrete Odgaard on new projects.
Their designs are generally characterized by a degree of complexity and the love for honest materials and detail. Designs that certainly exudes a certain kind of rigor. With good workmanship and design also follows a predominant design and development process, when everything has to be perfect and when just the right solution in the form of an important detail is missing. I predict a very bright future for these two.
Mads is one of the newest members to the Danish designer club. His eye for detail and his approach to combine the right kind of materials has got his name of the designer map. Just now his first product, the lamp Buddy produced by Northern Lighting, is headlining all over the world.
