As you may have picked up on already from Instagram, Facebook and the blog – I just got back from Beijing. I have already shown you favorite moments, and as I only spent 5 nights in the massive city, I don’t think I will compile a city guide for you guys. However, I do want to share my experience staying at the Opporsite House, a hotel the well-known site Travel + Leisure readers voted as the 20th best hotel in the world and 2nd best in Asia in 2016. So I guess I don’t have to say, my expectations where pretty high.
From the minute you step out of the taxi, standing in front of the big green glass building, you just know those expectations will be met. As soon as I walk through the swing doors I am greeted by Frank, Assistant Director of Guest Experience, almost like he knew I was coming at that exact moment. Frank quickly gets me sorted at the front desk, showing me to my Studio 70 room on the 5th and top floor.
The room is, 70 square meters (hence the name of the room), with an open floor layout, with only toilet and shower behind doors – everything else is divided by see-through white curtains. I have a bed section, a bathroom section and living room section – all beautifully decorated. Favorite feature must be the wooden bathtub and separate rain shower. I also really appreciate that everything is kept very stylish and even with a few hints of Danish designs here and there with pieces from Gubi and Bang & Olufsen.
On site is also three restaurants, needless to say, I tried them all. All with excellent food, Jing Yaa Tang, an authentic Chinese cuisine restaurant, serves the best Peking duck in the world — I kid you not.
And in the basement you’ll also find a well-equipped fitness center and a gorgeous indoor pool, perfect for laps.
All in all, I have been racking my brain to find something that didn’t meet my expectations, but I can truly say that I understand why the Opporsite House is recognized as one of the best hotels in the world.
— I was invited by the Opporsite House, which means they covered all expenses in relation to my two day stay, flights excluded —
