Cool Pools

To me, summer means bathing and swimming both in seawater and swimming pool. Therefor I have chosen four beautiful pools in nice design and cool architecture, which I certainly would love to grab a swim in this summer. They all have something special and original in their expression.

(Foto: T.R.O.P)

The swimming pool is located over the podium of a 42-storey residential complex in the middle of Bangkok. It is designed by Thai landscape architects T.R.O.P. who have created a three-dimensional look with white borders criss-crossing the water both horizontally and vertically. This splits the water into small sections, which gets a 3D expression when you observe the pool from above and from the side. Also there are integrated small terraces in the pool’s water edge, which provided a fun and different look. (Photo: T.R.O.P)

Bungalow5_Kois Pool_2

(Foto: Kois)

This pool here is designed by the Greek architect firm Kois and is located on the small island of Tinos in the middle of the Greek archipelago. The first time I saw pictures of this pool, I was blown away. Kois has created this infinity pool on the roof of a holiday property on the basis, that the house must merge with the surrounding nature both forest and sea and be camouflaged. The pool is also serving as a mirror in which the water reflects the sky and sea. (Photo: Kois)

The Portuguese architect João Mendes Ribeiro has been working along the similar lines as the pool before, where he has designed a pool and a pavilion of mirror panels. The swimming pool was settled in a way that would allow to avoid changes on the terrain morphology and not to interfere with the existing vegetation, keeping the orchard’s character almost untouched and favouring the landscape scenic. The Mirror pavilion reflects the landscape around the pool, so the surrounding trees in the garden camouflage it. (Photo: Arkitect João Mendes Ribeiro)

Bungalow5_Wiel Pool_4

In line with the pool in Greece, the Dutch architecture firm Wiel Arets Architects created a pool on the roof of a private villa called “Jellyfish House” in the southern Spanish holiday location Marbella. The special thing about this pool is, the very framework containing water is made of glass. The pool’s location on the roof is giving residents a sublime view to the Mediterranean Sea  – plus a rather original feature, where the residents have a full on view to the bathers underneath the swimming pool – because of a glass floor (whether you love it or not, it’s kind of cool).
