Everyone who has followed us just for a little while, knows that this years (and last year’s) absolute must-have interior material is marble.

Nowness recently shared the breathtaking documentary Il Capo (The Chief) from filmmaker Yuri Ancarani. It has taken nearly a year filming on the Monte Bettolgi in the Carrara region of the Apuan Alps, in Northwest Italy, where the Italian director followed a marble quarry boss as he guided his men through the extraction process, using a language of hand gestures. “I was so taken by the chief, watching him work,” says Ancarani, “how he can move gigantic marble blocks using enormous excavators, but his own movements are light, precise and determined.”
