Nina Bruun

I have known Nina Bruun by name for a while, but never really met her, until we both stood in the amazing home of Paola Navone during Milan Design Week back in April. We were both extremely overwhelmed by Paola’s extreme taste and aesthetics, in a good way. Nina works for Danish Muuto as a product designer. Her expertise in trendspotting, colours, and textures makes her the perfect addition to the Muuto family as it continues to expand its collection of furniture, lighting, and accessories. Her role keeps her on her toes, as she works closely with the designers from the initial product brief to the very finished product. Nina is über creative and I was very curious to hear about her every day life, her dreams and who she would invite for dinner.

Tell in short, who is Nina?

Nina Bruun is 31 years old – born and raced in a family of creatives in Copenhagen, Denmark. Nina has a Master Degree in Product/Furniture design and interior decoration.

You work for Muuto – but what is it exactly you do?

I have been working for Muuto for 2,5 years – I am a project manager at Design and Product Development and responsible for our colours, textile and line extensions. I have had a lot of different task in my time here, such as interior decoration, styling, graphic work etc.

A typical day for you?

I am at the office at 9 and from there I plan my day – every day is very different which I love about my job. There’s always emails and meetings but apart from that my days can be everything from designing products, moodboards, trendbooks and colour schemes, doing interviews, meeting with bloggers or designers, assisting in creative activities within PR, marketing, showroom styling, photoshoots etc.

What do you dream about?

I dream about learning something new everyday the rest of my life.

What is the first thing you think about Monday morning?

I do Bikram yoga every day of the week and on weekdays this has to happen in the mornings – so to be honest that is the first and only thing I think of when I wake up at 5:45. But after my yoga session I walk to work, from Nørrebro to the center of Copenhagen – this is where I truly wake up, get prepared for my day and get inspired.

What is your favourite Muuto item?

As I work with all of our products I have relationship and love for them all, but I love the Oslo series (picture above) – I think it will be a life-long love affair.

Who is your favourite designer?

I have many favourites for many different reasons – but one that I really admire is Achille Castiglioni – as he was so much ahead of his time. His pieces is still timeless classics. That must be a dream scenario for all designers.

If you could invite one person to dinner, who would it be?

Iris Apfel, the American businesswoman, interior designer and fashion icon – even though I know, before hand, that I will be the underdressed of the two of us 😉

What are you working on right now?

Right now I am working on new colours for our existing products. A task that I really love. I love the idea about expanding our collection and widening the Muuto colour palette.
