North, an iconVilla, Cape Town

There may never be a better (or cheaper) time to visit South Africa. There are plenty of places to fly to for winter sun, but only one place that offers five-star hotels for the price of a somewhat desent AirBnb. South Africa has always been good value for most European visitors, even a few years ago when there were 10 rand to the Euro. Now that figure is closer to 17 rand. For visitors, an entire country is half price. This freak situation may not last; so there might never be a better time to visit.

Springbok Road is one of those roads in Cape Town everyone wants to have a house on. It sits high on the slopes of Signal Hill with an outlook that stretches across the city to the ocean, Robben Island, and far beyond. I spent four full days with Puno, founder of Made with Map & I Love Creatives, in one of the most amazing newly built villas on the road.

The three-story house is located atop an impressive driveway, walking into the house is just an experience like no other I have ever experienced before. First floor, is the centre of the house, a fully equipped open kitchen, a huge dining and living room and of course, not to forget, the huge outdoor living space with comfortable couches, a barbecue and seating for 12. Did I mention the jaw dropping pool and view? Sundowners (watching the sunset with drinks) on the terrace are a sublime experience as the light changes and the view below takes on another dimension.

The upper level is dedicated to five spacious en-suite bedrooms, each one decked out with the most beautiful artwork. I remember the face on Puno when I showed her around, just one big grin, she just kept saying ”oh my god”, laughing out hysterically. In a good way! A VERY good way.

I want to highlight some of the artwork, one being a picture, or actually three, of the ocean with the sun peeping through the clouds, such an amazing piece. I love the idea of splitting a landscape picture in three, gives it some extra drama.

The house sleeps 10 people, comes with a private chef and daily housekeeping, what’s not to like, I mean, love? The house is booked through iconVillas, who specialises in private property vacation rentals and offers an amazing array of handpicked properties.

I had an amazing time staying at this house. I wouldn’t change a bit. You should definitely check out iconVillas for a possibility to stay here if you plan a trip to Cape Town.
