Spier Wineyard, Stellenbosch, Cape Town

Even though spring has really already shown itself from its best side here in Copenhagen, I cannot stop dreaming about my trip to Cape Town. Exactly one year ago, I spend a week in Cape Town – one of my absolute favorite cities.

Cape Town is full of colourful neighbourhoods, mountain tops wherever you look, gastronomic experiences and a breath-taking nature. And of course, the people are some of the most colourful, forthcoming and open-minded people. I really think, everyone should reconsider their yearly trip to Costa del Sol or Sharm el Sheikh and look for to what other destinations the world has to offer.

Cape Town would, in my opinion, be a perfect place to start. When you reach the top of Table Mountain, one of the worlds seven newly appointed wonders of nature, a sunny morning, you quickly forget the 12 hour flight from Copenhagen – the perfect get-a-away from the dark Danish winter. In South Africa the summer begins in November and continues way into March, which makes it the perfect destination for the big city loving, winter depressed Dane.

South Africa’s cultural capital is surrounded by vineyards and a visit to one of them is an absolute must. The number of historical vineyards with their own wine production is massive, so it is a pretty good idea to to your homework before you go, and select which to visit prior to you going. You want to find one where you can do more than just drink wine a look a the wine fields.

If you are living in Denmark, you are likely to know Spier’s wine from the shelf in the supermarkets already. Spiers wineyard in Stellenbosch is huge and you can easily spend a day or two when you have found your way to one of the great hotel apartments on ground. Try a ride on a Segway, which brings you all the way around the landscape and of course you will have to go for a proper wine tasting. Spier Creative Block has actually won several awards and I have to say, it tastes pretty good, also in Denmark!
