Thank you, thoughts on blogging & sponsored posts

Last day of November, when I wake up tomorrow, it will be to start my forth year as a fulltime blogger. Three years ago today, my boss at Gubi took me aside to tell me, they were dismissing several people, including me. Of course I was sad, I loved my job, but today, I am super happy to get this push (as I see it today) to finally just working with what I love the most.

It is super surreal, to tell people, I am a blogger, when they ask what I do. First question is almost always ”wow cool, but how do you earn money?” and I’ll tell you, it is not an easy job always and as a reader pointed out in a comment the other day, there have been a lot of sponsored posts lately. That is how I earn my money. I want to leave Bungalow5 free of banner advertising, I have tried and I don’t think it looks great, so instead, I choose brands to work with very wisely. I pick brands, which I think is interesting for all of you and I try to do collaborations that benefits everyone. The brand, me and of course you guys. I try to make it interesting, not just a copy-paste version of the brand’s press release – I really try out the product, have it in my home, style it up as I see it and write my own comments. I want to make it VERY clear, I would never write something positive about a brand if it was not the case. I hope you believe me with this, a review will not only be 100% positive, there is always something, even when I am sponsored to do it.

To survive as a full time blogger, I have to do sponsored posts, especially when not having banners and sometimes a few more than I would like too, but that’s how it is. I promise you, I will try to do more non-sponsored post in the future. You might also have noticed that I have incorporated a “sponsored” mark at the very top of my posts when this is the case, the Danish ombudsman want’s us bloggers to clearly mark when we are paid for our content, which I think is a very good idea. Faithfull readers, would of course know that I have always marked my posts before, but at the bottom of the posts with sponsored by or in collaboration with, I think there is a difference, as do most of my blogger colleagues, I am not sure you guys do though. So now, all posts where there is money involved will be marked sponsored, I hope you will appreciate this. And as always, I really appreciate you guys commenting, so if you agree, disagree or just want to ask something, don’t be afraid, I won’t bite, I promise.

Next month is December (stating the obvious, I know), so instead of making these lists of present for her, him, your father and so on, I will just pick one product each day, that I like – 100% not sponsored, just products I love.

Well that was just a few thoughts from me on this last day of my third year as a fulltime blogger. I love you all for keep reading, even with all the chances this past year, thank you from the bottom of my heart. If I could, I would hug each and every one of you. Have a great day!

Congrats on three years of being a full-time blogger! It’s not an easy job to keep up, and it saddens me that many people do not accept adverts/sponsored posts on blogs as much as they do for a printed magazine (for which they paid for in the first place). Because in the end, those who love to read your blog will stick around, just as they keep on buying their favourite publication at the corner store every month.
    Keep up the good work!

You are so right, however, I think a lot of people, still see bloggers as people who should just blog for fun. Not many really understand how you can make it into a business. Your point about the magazines is so on point, one I have never thought about before. Thank you.

Thank you for a wonderful post. How nice it is to read more of your comments on this post. It gives a much better sense of who you are than the usual short 2-5 sentences on your posts. I do follow daily and do like your posts, I just enjoy reading more of YOU in them.

Good luck in your fourth year.

Thank you so much for your kind words Robert. I have thought about many times, sharing more about me in my posts. Bungalow5 have always been more my thought and not so much about me, so it is difficult to make that change I think.
