Palm Springs is a desert resort city just 2 hours from Los Angeles. The city emerged because 50’s actors like Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe and Elisabeth Taylor were on Hollywood lockdown, which meant that they could only be less than 2 hours away from filming locations. Palm Springs was the perfect getaway spot within those boundaries.
Together with Puno and Sheila from Made With Map I spent but one short enjoyable night at The Aperture in the Racquet Club Estates neighbourhood; a mid-century heaven for 50s and 60s architecture. On a corner lot, the white single-story Aperture emerged, we swung into the parking lot and entered the gorgeous vacation paradise in true Palm Springs-style.
The Aperture is just one of many luxe Vacation Home Rentals in Greater Palm Springs and the surrounding desert cities managed by Acme House Company. All catered to those looking to travel to the world-renowned desert destination for the season, week-long stays and extended weekends. Visit Acme’s Website to explore more homes.
Of course one night luxing it up in Palm Springs is not anywhere near enough time to take in all the mid-century hotness, but we made the most of it. Entering the house is just gorgeous in its simplicity, just the way we like it. The original polished concrete floors and post and beam ceilings have been preserved while adding modern conveniences like all new kitchen and baths makes it all like actually living in the 60s just with the 00s appliances.
The entire back of the house features floor to ceiling sliding glass doors – seamlessly connecting to the pool, patio and outdoor living spaces. This property captures the magic of Southern California glamour. The convenient city location is softened by privacy walls, mature plantings, towering palms, water features and gorgeous landscaping that is drought-conscious and lush at the same time – oh an a magnificent pool with a separate hot tub. The backyard itself is heavenly. So private, spacious and well-planned. We spent majority of our time here. All day. All night. Well, at least until the Grammys was on telly!
The home is privately owned by Linas Kubilius and his partner and designed the interiors and gave the home its concept look.
— I was invited by the house owners and ACME, which means they covered all expenses in relation to my stay —
